Storybook 05:24
I crawled to where there was no earth Just concrete and lead paint Where some still wanted to breathe the air More pretended that they did not age No breeze only stillness broken And long lines of blind sheep Where daytime and the evening get lost Storybook of where it all began And all i wanted was to hear you Say you love me one more time When the sky turns green and water black I’ll know In the dark your voice will lead me back And i’ll want will be to hear you Say you love me one more time Who have we become What have I done When the sky turns green and water black I’ll know In the dark your voice will lead me back And i’ll want will be to hear you Say you love me

Abandon all that flies In shades of ruby red The carnival parade had reached its end Riding on a lark Caught up in the tracks The careless dreamer suddenly looks back Porcelain flowers in bloom Destiny soared In the days of fire and ice Never standing in the same place twice When the tide goes out With its legend It drinks the tale of ghosts and gods and men Porcelain flowers in bloom Fate arises Strength and spirit Great surprises Cease to fear it Porcelain flowers in bloom Cease to fear it
3.
Blue Janie 03:57
Blue Janie There’s so much for you Blue Janie Smile Blue Janie There’s so much for you Blue Janie Try For the time Being where we are is everything in my life For you and I can jump inside a carousel of moving slides and star Can’t save the wind Can’t save the night Always you by my side Can’t save the day Can’t save the time Always you by my side
4.
Seneca Lake 03:08
The dew stays long After morning wakes A kiss at dawn On Seneca Lake Rows and rows Of wine on the terrain Willow dirt Full of memories and pain Country mile Being chased by the moon Or a cat’s smile Lets you know we’ll be there soon So hike that hill Until we meet again And share a drink With one of my old friends
5.
El Salvador 03:39
Always want some way around it You know just where you want to go You might as well El Salvador
6.
Feel Lost 04:07
Empty memories Melt down with ease When cast away The lies will play Around It all will fall Like love’s withdrawal In search of sound That can’t be found Because I know That I feel lost without it Maybe in time You’ll see my side Don’t make it right I’ll try I’ll fight To rise Above it all Before I fall Give me your song Sing me along Because you know That I feel lost without it I’ll fool the world So you won’t face the pain I’ll fool the world And be in this place again And I feel lost without it
7.
Crackerjack 04:51
Crackerjack won’t dance In his ballroom stance Up against the wall He doesn’t look so tall A heavy heart weighs down The ceilings of a town He started losing touch From falling too much Feel the rain Coming down In the spring when new life Comes around Crackerjack won’t sing He threw his towel in the ring Sitting high on his throne His majesty all alone A heavy heart weighs down The ceilings of a town He started losing touch From falling too much Feel the rain Coming down In the spring when new life Comes around Crackerjack won’t dance
8.
I think I remember What it means to smile Leave it to An eternal season A blanket of pictures That was sewn from miles Of being there With no reason So much of one The high one hides While the rains run Calliope drifter Plays a highway trail Drunk on love And a bottle of wine A journey forever Under the stars’ veil Humming a tune To slow down time So much of one The high one hides From the midnight sun It’s easy to obsess But let it all be known And that light Will be shown
9.
I’ll never fall from grace Never having been One moment in this light Can’t carry the weight of the sun No shelter from shadows Or harbors for the tricks A pocket left to hold What roses remain unsold Breathe Brother breathe Along with you i will ride Blaze a trail and collide With fields of meteor nights Somewhere howling Here I am As the end Begins again The days that we rule Are the days that seem cruel Depending on the fool I’ll never fall from grace
10.
Off Clouds 04:18
I took flight Over light Dropped from clouds After all I was dreaming out loud Canyons roar From the floor Bounced off clouds After all I was dreaming out loud Love me right Over light Dropped from clouds After all I was dreaming out loud

about

Bridging both genres and generations with original music steeped in the history of its influences, Hood Smoke’s sonic narrative illustrates timeless stories using beautifully simple melodies set to a rhythmic foundation built firmly from the bass up.

Since the release of their debut album, Laid Up In Ordinary (2012), Chicago’s Hood Smoke has continued to narrow the gap between retro and modern sounds in a unique and sincere way.

The band is a tour de force whose past and present members have performed with Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind & Fire, Koko Taylor, Rhymefest, Nick Lowe, Chris Thile, and Umphrey’s Mcgee.

With their second album, Regular Neurotic (2014), the band began its collaboration with producer and engineer Anthony Gravino. The record’s anthem “Never Suffering” gained the band recognition from American Songwriter and the Chicago Sun-Times declared Hood Smoke a “must-see act.”

With their third release Rough Around The Hedges (2016), which Newcity described as “whip-smart jazz-funk-fusion” whose “lyrics are top-notch throughout,” Doherty proved his prolificacy as a composer and lyricist. 2016 also marked the band’s first national tour as they wooed audiences at large rock festivals and intimate jazz clubs, alike.

The band’s fourth album Cannonball Porch (2018) showcases Doherty’s vulnerable and melancholic voice on what he promises to be “the most simplistic, lyrically creative, and to the point” Hood Smoke album to date.
